Last year, marijuana possession was the No. 1 reason for arrests in New York City with 50,383, according to data obtained by the Drug Policy Alliance released Thursday.

The group said that marijuana arrests have risen for six straight years, and that under Mayor Mike Bloomberg, more have been busted for pot than any other mayor.

The NYPD didn’t return calls for comment on the statistics. The Drug Policy Alliance, which advocates alternatives to the “drug war,” said 140 people are arrested daily in New York for pot, accounting for 15 percent of all arrests.
