NYPD: Escaped prisoner recaptured in the Bronx

Police have located the suspect who they said escaped from custody after being taken to a Bronx hospital for a medical condition early Friday, the NYPD said.

An NYPD spokesman said the suspect, Kevin Taylor, 27, was caught Friday night in the northern Bronx area of the 52nd Precinct.

He was being held at the 48th Precinct.

The 52nd Precinct is the same area where Taylor was initially arrested on April 25 on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of marijuana, police said.

The escape occurred when he was transported from central booking Friday morning to St. Barnabas Hospital in the Belmont section of the Bronx, officials said.

An NYPD spokesman said Taylor was wearing “one cuff on one wrist” when he escaped at 6:39 a.m.

It was not immediately clear if Taylor had been cuffed to a hospital bed or gurney at the time of his escape or if there was another reason that both his hands were not handcuffed at the time, the police spokesman said.

Officers canvassed the area around St. Barnabas and asked the public for help by distributing a photo, describing his clothing and providing a tip line.
