Queens-Midtown Tunnel reopening but flight cancellations still piling up

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo says the Queens-Midtown Tunnel will reopen on Friday morning, more than a week after superstorm Sandy hit the region.
Meanwhile, air travel in the New York area still isn't back to normal after the second major storm in little more than a week.
Major airlines have scratched about 600 flights around the U.S. Thursday, according to flight tracking service FlightAware. The majority of those are in the New York area, although airports in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere are affected.
More than 1,600 were cancelled Wednesday when a Nor'easter hit the area with a mix of rain and snow. United and American suspended operations in the region by afternoon, as white-out conditions developed. Other airlines cancelled a handful of flights and encouraged passengers to reschedule.
Superstorm Sandy caused more than 20,000 flight cancellations when it hit last Monday, making it the second-most disruptive storm in the last seven years.
