The Queens-Midtown Tunnel is open.

The reopening on Friday marked progress in the ongoing challenge to restore New York City transportation after the superstorm.

The tunnel was flooded by a storm surge. After it was pumped dry, workers had to repair damaged mechanical systems.

The tunnel under the East River is a major connection between midtown Manhattan and Queens.

It links Hunters Point in Long Island City and Murray Hill in Manhattan.

The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, commonly known as the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, is still out of commission.
