Quick Thought: Inching along

The slow progress toward a contract agreement between the Yankees and their free-agent icon, Derek Jeter, has not been a fan-friendly process to observe.

Since the idea of Jeter in an enemy uniform is unimaginable (if not undepictable, thanks to Photoshop), the issues are how much money the 36-year-old shortstop will earn, and how much face each side can still save.

Yawn.

One longs for the excitement of a real free-agency frenzy. At least we won’t have to wait long: The sharks already are circling around Cliff Lee.
