R train set to return between boros by Dec. 21: Reports

The R train is expected to be running between Manhattan and Brooklyn by the end of the week for the first time since Superstorm Sandy, according to published reports.
Service along the line has slowly returned since the superstorm hit, and the train currently runs in two sections between Forest Hills-71st Ave. and Whitehall Street, and Jay St-MetroTech and Bay Ridge-95th Street.
"We hope to get that by Dec. 21," said Carmen Bianco, the MTA's senior vice president of subways, according to the Post.
The line tunnel the train travels through under the East River was severely damaged during Sandy, and MTA crews have been working virtually around the clock ever since to repair it.
The Rockaways, however, aren't so lucky. The A train isn't expected to return there until the spring, reports said, as the damage to equipment there was among the most severe of the subway system.
The MTA didn't respond to a request for comment.
