U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel sold the Dominican Republic vacation home that was a major factor in the scandal that almost destroyed his career for between $250,000 and $500,000, according to financial disclosure forms released Wednesday.
Rangel, 81, sold the Punta Cana beach villa in December, just weeks after he was censured by the House. He had failed to pay $10,000 in taxes on the villa.
He was ordered to pay the taxes as part of his punishment.
The popular Harlem congressman was found guilty of 11 charges by the House Ethics Committee in November. The rap included improperly using a rent-stabilized apartment in Harlem.
A spokeswoman for Rangel declined to comment Wednesday on the sale of the beach villa.
