A rapper once signed to a Jay-Z run label is headed to prison for a deadly attack on a New York City man he said he didn't mean to harm.
Tru Life, born Robert Rosado, was sentenced Wednesday to eight years in prison. His lawyer said the rapper, 34, was "extraordinarily saddened" over the June 2009 death of Christopher Guerrero.
Tru Life pleaded guilty last month to gang assault. His brother, Marcus Rosado, 39, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.
Both Rosados say Guerrero, 20, wasn't their intended target in violence that followed an argument at a nightclub. Guerrero was stabbed.
Tru Life was signed for a time to Roc-La Familia, a Latin-oriented arm of Roc-A-Fella Records, a label Jay-Z co-founded.
