Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky dead at 92
Red Sox icon Johnny Pesky died Monday, according to published reports. He was 92.
Pesky played for Boston in 1942, and 1945-1952 after serving in World War II for three years. His time with the Red Sox overlapped with that of Hall of Famer Ted Williams. He also played for Detroit from 1952-1954, retiring as a career .307 hitter.
Post-retirement, he was a fixture in the Red Sox clubhouse, serving as a hitting instructor and club ambassador, and having his number retired in 2008.
