With no end in sight to the five-day-old "Weinergate" scandal, one thing seems certain: The politician at the center of the saga is done talking about it.

When asked by reporters Tuesday for comment on the controversy, in which a lewd crotch shot appeared on his Twitter feed Friday night, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn/Queens) said it's a distraction to which he won't devote any more time.

"I’m not going to talk about this anymore," Weiner said, according to published reports. "If I was giving a speech to 45,000 people and someone stood up and heckled in the back I wouldn’t spend three days talking to him. I’m going to get back to the conversation I care about."

He later called a TV producer a "jackass" when he was pressed for comment, reports said.

Weiner has blamed the incident on a hacker, and has also called it a “prank.”

The online controversy erupted early Saturday, when conservative pundit Andrew Breitbart's website Biggovernment.com reported that the married Weiner, 46, had sent the suggestive photo to a 21-year-old Seattle college student.

The photo was quickly deleted, and the student, Gennette Cordova, removed her Twitter and Facebook accounts, though apparently started a new Twitter account a day later.
