This is your country on drugs.

A government report yesterday said illegal drug use in America rose to almost 9 percent — or about 21.9 million users — in 2009, up from 8 percent in 2008.

This is the highest number in a decade, and it’s largely attributed to growth in marijuana.

Use of prescription drugs, ecstasy and methamphetamines also increased, the report said.

“Today’s findings are disappointing, but not surprising,” said Gil Kerlikowske, director of National Drug Control Policy, who attributed the rise to “eroding attitudes and perceptions of harm about drug.”
