Revis, Tebow's status uncertain as Jets camp begins

The Jets go into training camp with many on-field issues after last season's disppointing 8-8 finish.

But they wouldn't be the Jets if the biggest question marks didn't have more to do with what's going on off the field.

Star cornerback Darrelle Revis will be in camp when the team opens up Thursday at SUNY Cortland, but it's safe to say that he's not happy about his current contract. The front-loaded deal, which he signed after holding out in 2010, is set to pay him $7.5 million this year and $6 million next year -- a bargain for a player considered by many to be the best shutdown cornerback in the NFL.

Will Revis' contract issues become a distraction? Or, will he keep his head down and play the season out?

And since they acquired him in March, there can't be a discussion about the Jets without Tim Tebow coming up. Jeremy Lin's colleague on the hype scale will enter camp as Mark Sanchez's backup at quarterback, but he's expressed a willingness to play elsewhere and the Jets seem keen to take him up on it. Tebow may spend time on special teams duty in addition to quarterback.

Suffice it to say that Tebow's role is up in the air -- and he's handling that as only he can.

"One of my favorite quotes is, 'I don't know what my future holds but I know who holds my future,'" Tebow said. "I am not too worried about being the man; I am just worried about being the best man I can be."

If you're looking for ostentatious boasts about the upcoming season, coach Rex Ryan is not giving them.

That role has been taken up by the suddenly outspoken D'Brickshaw Ferguson, who abandoned his usually measured media interactions to tell NFL.com's Dave Dameshek that Gang Green has "greatness written all over us."
