Beautiful 'Hugo' an epic success
While Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" failed to win any of the big Oscars Sunday night - though it did deservingly win five on the technical side - that doesn't take away from just how stunning an achievement this film is. Based on the book "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," this film tells the story of an orphan living in a train station in 1930s Paris, where he encounters an overzealous inspector, an elderly bookseller, a grumpy toymaker with a secret and the toymaker's goddaughter. Meanwhile, Hugo is fixing a clockwork automaton that he believes will provide him with a message from his deceased father. (DVD, $29.99; Blu-ray/DVD combo, $44.99; Blu-ray 3-D/Blu-ray/DVD combo, $54.99)
