'Moneyball' pays off for more than baseball fans Full disclosure: I have been a diehard Oakland Athletics fan for more than 25 years. That said, it is with no hesitation that I declare that director Bennett Miller's adaptation of the Michael Lewis nonfiction book (subtitled "The Art of Winning an Unfair Game") is an excellent, incredibly smart film. Brad Pitt stars as A's general manager Billy Beane who, along with his numbers-crunching assistant GM (played wonderfully by Jonah Hill), are tasked with replacing three of his star players - Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon and Jason Isringhausen - on a shoestring budget. "Moneyball" is as much a business film as it is a sports film, and it does a great job of exploring the innovations that Beane and company used to create a competitive team in a way that will appeal to both hardcore baseball fans and novices alike. (DVD, $30.99; Blu-ray, $35.99; Blu-ray/DVD combo, $40.99)
 Epic television
'Boardwalk Empire: The Complete First Season' HBO's epic tale of Atlantic City in the Roaring (and bootlegging) '20s - starring Steve Buscemi as corrupt politician Nucky Thompson - gets a ton of extra features on this collection, including six commentaries, making-of features on the show and the creation of the boardwalk, and a look at the city's history. (DVD, $59.99; Blu-ray, $79.98)
 Manly action
'Killer Elite' Lots of gunfire and steely looks from the likes of Robert De Niro, Jason Statham and Clive Owen in this taut action thriller. (DVD, $29.98; Blu-ray, $34.98)
 Offbeat brits
'An Idiot Abroad' Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant send their odd buddy Karl Pilkington (from "The Ricky Gervais Show") on trips around the globe. (DVD, $34.98)
 Rom-com
'What's Your Number?' Anna Faris stars as a woman who decides to revisit her relationships with all of her exes, convinced that Mr. Right is among them. Also starring Chris Evans. (DVD, $29.99; Blu-ray, $39.99)
 Even more options
 Also available '1911' (DVD, $24.98; Blu-ray, $29.98) 'Film Socialisme' (DVD, $29.95; Blu-ray, $34.95) 'G.I.Joe Series 2, Season 1' (DVD, $29.93) 'Higher Ground' (Blu-ray/DVD combo, $45.99) 'Saving Private Perez' (DVD, $19.98) 'There Be Dragons' (DVD, $22.98; Blu-ray, $29.99) 'The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption' (DVD, $29.98; Blu-ray, $34.98)
