'Monsters'
The 2009 surprise hit “District 9” opened up the floodgates for minimalist, low-budget sci-fi films. “Monsters,” from writer/director Gareth Edwards, feels like a guerrilla-style film — personal and intimate — but still has some impressive special effects. The monsters here, while not that monstrous, are awe-inspiring. It follows a journalist who’s trying to take an American woman out of the infected zone to the U.S. border. (DVD, $26.98; Blu-ray, $29.98)

‘Conviction’
Hilary Swank stars as an obsessive sister bent on getting her brother, played by Sam Rockwell, out of prison. (DVD, $29.99; Blu-ray, $39.99)

‘Let Me In’
This vampire flick with Chloe Moretz is one of the rare remakes — the original was the Swedish film “Let the Right One In” — that is as worth seeing as the original. (DVD, $29.98; Blu-ray, $39.99)

‘Hatchet 2’
It doesn’t get much bloodier and gorier than this horror series. That’s all you need to know. (DVD, $27.98; Blu-ray, $34.98)

‘Never Let Me Go’
“Never Let Me Go” is a dystopian indie flick about a group of friends (played by Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield) in an English boarding school. There’s a big secret in the plot, but I’m not going to tell you what it is. (DVD, $29.99; Blu-ray, $39.99)

‘Skin’
Sophie Okonedo stars as a dark-skinned woman born to two white Afrikaner parents in South Africa during the time of apartheid. (DVD, $24.98; Blu-ray)

‘Alice in Wonderland’
The classic Disney animated film turns 60 and gets a new edition. (DVD/Blu-ray combo, $39.99)

‘The Tillman Story’
The family of fallen football player Pat Tillman tries to discover the truth about his death. (DVD, $24.96; Blu-ray, $39.95)

‘The Abbott and Costello Show: Who’s on First?’
Everyone seems to know this famous bit, but have you ever seen it? I just did. You should too. It’s still funny. (DVD, $9.98)
