You can forget all the other “X-Men” movies (I’m still trying to forget the awful “X-Men: The Last Stand”): “First Class” is by far the finest, most interesting and most compelling installment in the Marvel mutant series. Set in the 1960s, you see the origins of the relationship between Professor X (played wonderfully by James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender, who steals the show). In a season with a bunch of decent to great superhero films, “First Class” elevated the genre. Available Friday (DVD, $29.98; Blu-ray, $39.99)
She’s a killer
‘Hanna’
In this thriller with an innocuous name, Saoirse Ronan stars as a young girl trained by her dad (Eric Bana) to be the perfect assassin. (DVD, $29.98; Blu-ray, $34)
Where there’s a Will ...
Everything Must Go’
Will Ferrell stars as a man who, after losing his job, comes home to find that his wife has kicked him out and dumped all his possessions on the lawn. What’s he to do? Tag sale! (DVD, $27.98; Blu-ray, $39.99)
Tony Montana’s back
‘Scarface: Limited Edition Steelbook’
The classic debuts on Blu-ray filled with extras. (Blu-ray, $34.98)
Classic
‘Straw Dogs’
Before the remake comes out next week, you should do yourself a favor and see the violent Sam Peckinpah original starring Dustin Hoffman. (Blu-ray, $24.99)
Squirmy
‘Disco Worms’
It sounds made up, but “Disco Worms” is a real film. Jane Lynch voices a character, and it includes songs you’ve actually heard of, including “I Will Survive” and “Play That Funky Music.” I think I’ll be sticking with Pixar films. (DVD, $24.99; Blu-ray, $29.99)
‘80s throwback
‘Airwolf: The Movie’
Once upon a time, people watched TV series about vehicles with names. Airwolf was a helicopter, and this is the full film cut aired in the U.K., which was chopped up for the U.S. pilot. (DVD, $19.93)
TV on DVD
There’s a lot of TV collections due out today. Here’s a couple of note:
• “Two and a Half Men: The Complete Eighth Season” (DVD, $44.98)
• “The Office: Season 7” (DVD, $49.98; Blu-ray, $59.98)
• “Parks & Recreation: Season 3” (DVD, $39.98)
