Roaring Summer: Go for 'Gatsby'-esque style as it heats up

“Great Gatsby” fever is in full swing — not just on the big screen with Baz Luhrmann’s film — but on the style scene as well.
It’s easy to channel the glamorous Roaring Twenties look but with a modern twist: Julianne Moore did so beautifully this spring in a shimmering black-and-white Chanel gown at the SAG Awards. Boho is out and chic is in. Here’s how to get the look:
-- Rhinestones are a girl’s best friend. Rhinestones from anywhere — even your grandmother’s house — are trending and can give a T-shirt an updated look, or even take a work look to night — unbutton your blouse a bit, add your rhinestone necklace from Topshop and throw that hair in a pony, and you are “Gatsby” day-to-night perfect.
-- Nothing says “Gatsby” more than a soft, matte red lip. Apply Revlon red to your lips and blot until it’s the right soft look. No lip pencils, please.
-- Drop the waist. Hit the shops for a drop-waist dress and bring the “Gatsby” look into 2013. It’s soft, flirty, can leave a lot to the imagination and can be forgiving.
-- For drop-dead hot summer legs, apply body oil to your skin and rinse. The shiny smooth legs will attract the Jay Gatsby in your life.
-- Instead of supermodel curls, go for the headscarf. Wrap your head with a colorful silk scarf, like one from Theodora & Callum, paired with a simple black dress — and hit any Memorial Day party like Daisy would.
-- T-strap it. Keep the five-inch heels for another time, and go with a simple metallic T-strap sandal from Manolo Blahnik.
-- Pearls are key. Put the choker away and get a long strand of pearls and wrap them with carelessness.
-- Instead of asking your friends when they are going back home, ask them, “When are you going to town?”
