Rudy Giuliani's daughter arrested on shoplifting charges
The daughter of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani was arrested Wednesday afternoon on charges she tried to shoplift makeup at a fashionable uptown Manhattan cosmetics store, said police.
Caroline Giuliani, 20, was given a desk appearance ticket for a charge of petty larceny, a misdemeanor, said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.
Law enforcement officials said that after police responded to the Sephora store on East 86th Street, managers didn't want to press charges once they learned Giuliani's identity. However, after police handcuffed Giuliani, she was taken for processing and issued an appearance ticket, officials said.
Officials at the Sephora store declined to comment and referred reporters to corporate spokesmen, who didn't return calls for comment. The Manhattan district attorney's office said they it will review the case to determine if it should file a criminal complaint. Caroline Giuliani is due back in court Aug. 31.
Investigators said the daughter of the former mayor and presidential candidate was observed on a camera and by sales staff, who said she took five cosmetics items. Police were called around 2:30 p.m. and arrested the Harvard University student, apparently without incident.
A call and e-mail to a spokesman for Rudy Giuliani for comment were not returned late Wednesday.
Caroline Giuliani is the youngest of Giuliani's two children. She has an older brother, Andrew.
