Runoff for public advocate race Tuesday
Voters can head back to the polls Tuesday to determine who will be the next public advocate.
Councilwoman Letitia James and state Sen. Daniel Squadron, the top-two vote-getters in the Sept. 10 primary, advanced to the runoff election after neither Democrat cracked 40% of the vote to win the nomination outright.
James finished the first round of the primary with 36%, while Squadron came in second with 33%.
Both runoff candidates won backing of the former contenders for public advocate.
James received an endorsement from attorney and former deputy public advocate Reshma Saujani, who finished in third place, while Squadron got the backing of educator Cathy Guerriero, who came in last out of the four major contenders.
There is no other race on the ballot, as Public Advocate Bill de Blasio became the Democrats' pick for mayor after former City Comptroller Bill Thompson conceded the race when his rival appeared to have cleared the 40% mark.
