"Russian businessmen" plead guilty in Stevenson case
Two adult day-care promoters who pleaded guilty to bribing former Bronx Assemb. Eric Stevenson were sentenced to 18 and 24 months in prison in federal court in Manhattan on Friday.
Rostislav Belyansky and Igor Tsimerman -- two Ukrainian-Americans referred to by the government as "Russian businessmen" -- both got terms from U.S. District Judge William Pauley under the 30-37 months called for in federal sentencing guidelines.
Stevenson was convicted this month of taking more than $20,000 in bribes in return for favors, including introduction of a bill to block competitors from establishing senior centers in the Bronx.
Belyansky, 43, of the Bronx, was sentenced to 18 months for conspiracy to bribe Stevenson. Tsimerman, 45, of Staten Island, was given 24 for conspiring to bribe Stevenson and former Assemb. Nelson Castro, an informant who was wired by the FBI.
Stevenson and two other businessmen who were part of the scheme have not been sentenced yet.
