Schumer wants domestic violence bill renewed
Sen. Chuck Schumer urged the House yesterday to renew the Violence Against Women Act, which aims to provide resources to law enforcement agencies to better train police to curb violence and stalking.
Nearly 55,000 domestic violence cases were reported in the city between 2009 and 2010, Schumer said in defending the bill.
The current law expires in September.
