The search for the remains of Shannan Gilbert — one of the women believed to be murdered by a serial killer on Long Island — will resume Thursday at Oak Beach, where, for a third day, officers will comb a marshy area where she was last seen alive, police said.

During the first two days of the search, police found a pocketbook with Gilbert’s identification — along with a pair of jeans, shoes and a cellphone believed to be hers — the Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said Wednesday.

Officers have not found any remains of Gilbert, 24, a sex worker from Jersey City who was last seen alive in the area on May 1, 2010, when she came to see a client, Dormer said, adding that the search will continue “into the foreseeable future.”
