Selig may change Home Run Derby rules to halt boos

MLB commissioner Bud Selig talked Tuesday about changing the Home Run Derby rules to guarantee a host team representative in response to Kansas City fans' boos of Robinson Cano at Monday's event.
Fans were upset because Cano, the captain of the American League side of the Home Run Derby, didn't pick Royals slugger Billy Butler after promising to make a hometown pick if possible. Royals supporters in attendance at Kauffman Stadium roared with delight each time Cano -- who didn't hit a single homer in the event -- made an out.
Selig told reporters in a meeting with the Baseball Writers Association of America that he would consider mandating a host team player to be in future Derbies. A similar situation occurred last year in Arizona, when Diamondbacks fans booed Prince Fielder for omitting hometown hero Justin Upton.
"We'll talk about (changing the rules)," Selig said. "I felt very badly last night. I felt badly last year for Prince. This was tough."
