Service on 14 subway lines affected this weekend
Another nightmarish weekend underground is in store for subway riders who will have to contend with canceled service, closed platforms and skipped stops systemwide, for the second week in a row.
Of the 19 lines that have regular service on weekends, 14 will be impacted Friday and 17 each on Saturday and Sunday, according to the MTA website, a slight improvement from the 18 affected last week.
The subway disruptions are due to upgrades and maintenance work the MTA is undertaking under its $11.2 billion capital building program.
Weekends are when fewer straphangers are inconvenienced, agency officials said.
Among the hardest hit lines is the No. 1, which will lose service from 242nd Street to 168th Street and Chambers Street to South Ferry from 11:30 a.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. The 1 will be affected every weekend in October.
Alternate service is available on the 2, 3 and A trains, the M3 bus and free shuttle buses.
