Lawyers for former Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver on Wednesday filed a notice that they were appealing a federal judge’s decision to unseal secret evidence that was not admitted during his trial on corruption charges last year, according to court records.
The filing came one day after Manhattan U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni issued a sealed decision that ruled the evidence could be made public. There has been no hint of what it is, but Silver’s lawyers have fought its release.
Silver was convicted last year of doing legislative favors for developers and a mesothelioma researcher in return for legal fees. His sentencing is scheduled for April.
