Simon Cowell and his fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy are 'taking a break'

Clearly, perpetual bachelor Simon Cowell intends to remain just that.

The "X Factor" judge revealed that he and his fiancee, Mezhgan Hussainy, are stepping back from their courtship and plans to wed.

In an interview Sunday with the Daily Mirror, Cowell, 52, says the couple hasn't seen each other since before the holidays.

"It's not on, it's not off, it's somewhere in the middle. I don't know if I will ever get married, but I am happy."

The outspoken Cowell also says he regrets calling Hussainy "The One" to CNN's Piers Morgan. Ouch.

Cowell and Hussainy met on the set of "American Idol" in 2003, where she was a makeup artist and he was a surly judge. The couple got engaged in February 2010.

Cowell was previously in a long-term relationship with "Extra" correspondent Terri Seymour. They split in 2008.
