The MTA will begin enforcing a new law Wednesday that bans smoking on Long Island Rail road and Metro-North platforms.
The law went into effect in November, but MTA police have only been issuing warnings since then. Starting Wednesday, commuters will face a $50 fine and up to 30 days in jail.
Smoking is already prohibited on city subway platforms.
