Soho group sues to remove Citi Bike stand
A SoHo community group wants to get rid of the Citi Bike station in their neighborhood.
The SoHo Alliance filed a lawsuit Wednesday seeking an injunction that would remove the bike station at Petrosino Square near Lafayette and Kenmare streets.
The group says it has asked the Department of Transportation to search for a new location so that the appearance of the square, which is used to showcase art, could be preserved.
"There are no bus depots in Prospect Park. There are no car parks in Central Park. Why should there be a bike stand in our park?" said Sean Sweeney, the director of the SoHo alliance.
The city's law department said, "It is unfortunate that these groups are resorting to litigation, but we are confident this location is completely proper and will withstand a court challenge."
