Source: Ex-IMF chief's DNA on maid's shirt
New tests have found that the DNA of former International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn matches material found on the shirt of a Manhattan hotel maid who says he attacked her, two people familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press.
The two people said that the tests were returned yesterday afternoon. They were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
They said DNA found on the maid's shirt matched to a sample of DNA from Strauss-Kahn, once a French presidential contender.
Strauss-Kahn attorney Benjamin Brafman declined to comment Monday.
At a court hearing last week, he told a judge that evidence from the incident won't be consistent with a forcible encounter.
Strauss-Kahn faces charges including attempted rape and sexual abuse in the May 14 incident at Manhattan's Sofitel Hotel.
Staff at the hotel told authorities that Strauss-Kahn also made passes at them.
A person familiar with the investigation said Monday that hotel staff told authorities that Strauss-Kahn flirted with a clerk at the Sofitel and called another to ask her up to his room.
The person with direct knowledge of investigators' interviews with staff said that the incidents happened on the day before the alleged May 14 attack on the hotel maid.
The Strauss-Kahn, 62, is charged with attacking a 32-year-old housekeeper in his $3,000-a-night hotel suite. He resigned Wednesday from the IMF.
Strauss-Kahn is temporarily staying with his wife at a luxury high-rise in lower Manhattan.
