Rest easy, New York: You can still use the restrooms at Starbucks.

A report in the New York Post yesterday said the coffee megachain was planning to limit public access to its restrooms, because keeping them open forced employees to wait in long lines to use them. Starbucks has more than 190 outlets in Manhattan alone.

The story prompted major online backlash, and Starbucks went directly to java lovers with its response, tweeting a full denial.

"this [sic] actually isn't true, we aren't closing public restrooms," the company tweeted at concerned customer @MsGraceGold.

It later tweeted at the New York Times's Metro section and a writer: "hey, we're not closing public bathrooms at all, that's not true."

A spokesperson for Starbucks told amNewYork: "Reports that we are eliminating public restrooms are completely false. Starbucks stores will continue to have public restrooms available. In rare cases at large stores with two restrooms, we have converted one of the restrooms for partner (employee) use."
