The board of the State Thruway Authority voted Monday to endorse the $3.1 billion bid for construction of a new Tappan Zee Bridge and to give the bridge contract to Tappan Zee Constructors, a consortium led by Fluor Enterprises of Irving, Texas, and American Bridge of Coraopolis, Pa.
The plan calls for a dual-span bridge to be built in roughly the same location.
Construction is expected to take more than five years, with a groundbreaking aimed for early next year.
