Staten Island men accused of serving drugs from ice cream truck

An oxycodone topping for that sundae?
A Staten Island man was part of a ring busted Thursday for dispensing oxycodone bills from his green-and-white Lickety Split Ice Cream truck for $20 a pop, authorities said.
The 31-member crew allegedly pumped nearly 43,000 tablets of the highly addictive pain medication worth $1 million on the black market between July 2009 and June 2010.
Scala would travel his normal truck route through Staten Island, but then stop for his adult clients, said the city’s special narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan.
Scala and co-ring leader Joseph Zaffuto, 39, of Staten Island, were in cahoots with a medical office manager, Nancy Wilkins, 40, of Brooklyn, who would give them blank prescription forms that would be filled out for the oxycodone, prosecutors said.
A network of 28 “runners” would then fill the prescriptions in exchange for cash or drugs.
Scala, Zaffuto and Wilkins each face up to 8 years in prison.
A woman who answered the phone for Lickety Split Ice Cream, of Arlington, Tenn., said it does not have a Staten Island operation despite similar-looking trucks.
