Two city elected officials and the New York chapter of the National Organization for Women came to the Lady Gaga's defense Tuesday after Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro called her a slut twice during a speech.

During an anti-drug event at Staten Island Borough Hall Monday, Molinaro said he was appalled at photos of Lady Gaga allegedly smoking marijuana nonchalantly during an Amsterdam concert.

"Here's this . . . this . . . I would call her a slut. This slut is influencing many, many children," the 81-year-old said.

Molinaro, whose son died of a drug overdose six years ago, did not hold back his disdain against the singer later during the event.

"To me, she's not an actress, she's a slut, in the pure meaning of the word," he said.

Molinaro's spokeswoman didn't return several phone calls and messages for comment. Lady Gaga's representatives also couldn't be reached.

Staten Island Councilwoman Debi Rose said Molinaro's comments were uncalled for and demeaning.

"As a fan and one who can relate to Gaga's little monsters, I found the language used yesterday to be inappropriate for public discourse," she said in a statement.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer defended Gaga noting that the Upper West Side native, who attended NYU for two years, has been a positive inspiration to people all over the world for various causes.

"In addition to her artistic pursuits, she is a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country," Stringer, who reportedly is close friends with Gaga's parents, said in a statement.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who famously locked lips with the singer on New Year's Eve, didn't return calls for comment.

NYC NOW executive director Sonia Ossorio said there is no reason for any person, let alone politcians, to use that word against women.s. She urged anyone else who was upset with his comments to speak out..

"When a man so easily throws around the word slut, it shows the caliber of man that he is," she said.

Ossorio added that his anti-drug initiative lost more power when he crossed the line with his words.

"His point was invalidated and lost when he called her a slut," she said.
