The MTA will lay off 202 station agents and close 44 token booths from across the subway system, a NYC Transit spokesman said Tuesday.

A judge blocked the agency from shutting the booths in June, but the MTA got its way after holding public hearings. Keeping the workers on during the legal wrangling cost the cash-strapped agency $49,000 a day in wages and benefits, according to agency estimates.
