A pregnant straphanger went into labor during rush hour Tuesday night, causing delays downtown.
The unidentified woman realized she was about to give birth at around 6:35 p.m. at the Wall Street No. 2/3 station, MTA and FDNY officials said, adding that she did not give birth on the train.
The subway waited in the station for at least 15 minutes, according to a rider in another car, who said a conductor announced that the subway was being held because someone had gone into labor.
EMS workers rushed the woman to New York Downtown Hospital, the MTA said.
Hospital officials could not comment on the woman’s condition Tuesday night.
