A new survey finds that many New York City residents are struggling to put nutritious food on the table.

The survey was released Tuesday by the Food Bank for New York City. It says about one in three New Yorkers reduced the quality or the amount of food they purchased in 2010.

The survey found that 37 percent of New York City residents experienced difficulty affording food in 2010.

That number is down from 48 percent at the start of the recession in 2008.

The report is based on a poll conducted by the food bank in collaboration with Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.

A total of 856 New York City residents were interviewed by telephone on Oct. 12 through Oct. 15. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
