Team USA's Hope Solo not sorry for Chastain tweet-down
Hope Solo is not backing down. The American goalkeeper Monday stood by her controversial tweets that blasted former U.S. soccer star and current NBC Sports commentator Brandi Chastain.
"I have my beliefs that the best commentators and the best analysts should be analyzing come Olympics, come World Cups," she told reporters at Old Trafford, the legendary home of Manchester United where the U.S. women will play Tuesday.
"I think analysts and commentators should bring energy and excitement and passion for the game, and a lot of knowledge," she added. "I think it's important to help build the game, and I don't think Brandi has that."
Solo made waves when she took offense to criticism of teammate Rachel Buehler by Chastain. Solo tweeted, "I feel bad 4 our fans that have 2 push mute," when watching Team USA play while Chastain is on the air.
Chastain dismissed her comments Sunday, telling reporters "I'm here to do my job, which is to be an honest and objective analyst."
Team USA plays North Korea today. Chastain will likely provide commentary for NBC Sports during the game.
