The MTA will begin another week of overnight shutdowns for maintenance work Monday night.

B/D/F/M service will be canceled between 57th Street and West 4th Street from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday morning.

The cash-strapped transit agency says shutting down service overnight makes the work faster, safer and cheaper, since crews don't have to scurry away between passing trains.

"In four nights, we were able to accomplish what would normally have taken at least two months to complete," NYC Transit President Tom Prendergast said of the work done on the Seventh Avenue line two weeks ago.

The MTA says up to 37,500 riders will be affected by the shutdown, and will need to spend an extra 20 minutes traveling.

The Eight Avenue line will be closed overnight next month between 59th Street-Columbus Circle and Jay Street-MetroTech.
