As “Spider-Man” prepares for its hiatus from April 19 through May 11, so too does our weekly “Spider-Man” update column. After this week, look for Spidey news in Behind the Curtain.

Spider-Man vs. the Tony awards

Now that “Spider-Man” won’t be opening until June 14, it’s not eligible for consideration at this year’s Tony Awards. Theater producers, however, are now worried that the opening could eclipse the June 12 awards ceremony in news coverage. Of course, that depends on how newsworthy “Spider-Man” remains in three months’ time.

The amazingly revised webslinger

The process of hacking away at the Julie Taymor version of “Spider-Man” has already begun. In the revised version, the Green Goblin will replace Arachne (an invention of Taymor’s) as Spider-Man’s main nemesis. Peter Parker’s relationship with Mary Jane and his aunt and uncle will receive more stage time, and more stunts will also be added.
