Stationed amid the industrial spaces and vinyl-clad row houses of Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood, the Captured Tracks record label has rapidly become one of the city’s most reliable sources for fresh music.
Founded in 2008 by Mike Sniper, its inception coincided with a fertile burst of young indie bands in similar orbits around the outer borough, and in the intervening years this productive union of sound and scene has yielded sterling results.
Issuing bright jangle-pop and raw noise alike, the vinyl-centric label is united less by their reverb-laden sound than their sharp editorial aspect, using a collector’s eye (and limited print runs) to offer rarity and value in an age of ubiquitous audio. This weekend they mark their fifth anniversary with CT5, a two-day festival highlighting some of their core acts.
