The Essex House hotel may be up for sale soon

The owners of Jumeirah Essex House are putting the famous art deco hotel on the edge of Central Park up for sale, the Associated Press reported Monday.

Dubai Investment Group, the company that bought the luxury hotel in September 2005, has "appointed advisers to explore opportunities" for Essex House, the hotel's management company told the AP.

DIG is part of Dubai Group, which has been selling off properties over the last few years to pay off billions of dollars in debt, the AP said.

Essex House opened in 1931 and has been a city landmark for decades.
