The Mets approached dating site because David Wright was voted 'hottest cub'
David Wright may be the "hottest cub," but the Mets want nothing to do with the title, according to leaked emails the Mets confirmed were real on Thursday.
Dating website CougarLife.com bestowed the honor on Wright, 30, last month after surveying its female users. Seeing the win, a staffer in the Mets' marketing department reached out to the site for a partnership deal that they thought could bring in votes to help get Wright in this year's All-Star Game, according to emails published on Deadspin.com.
But once the staffer brought the idea to the department's higher-ups the deal was shot down, because it would give off an "image that our team and David -- especially since he recently got engaged -- would like to portray," according to the emails.
Wright held back laughter when asked about the odd proposal Thursday.
"Are you serious?" Wright said, smiling. "I guess it's a nice honor. Did you guys have to draw straws for who asks the question?"
He added: "I guess I'd like to thank my parents for the genes."
