The NYPD is investigating after thieves busted through the glass door of a swank Manhattan store and made off with jewelry reportedly worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Police say the break-in at Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue happened shortly after 3 a.m. Friday.
Security footage showed two men approaching the store's entrance. One broke through the door while the other stood over him, blocking the view of passersby.
A police spokeswoman says the thief headed for jewelry display cabinets, bashed them open with a hammer and snatched the gems.
The New York Post reports that the jewelry was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The police had no estimate Saturday of the dollar value of the thieves' haul. A Bergdorf Goodman spokesman did not immediately return a call.
