Time on hockey fans' side during Stanley Cup Finals

It seems fitting that the Stanley Cup Finals during a shortened season would feature the most overtime hockey in finals history.

By the time Brent Seabrook lifted the Blackhawks to a 6-5 win in the first overtime period of Game 4, to tie the series at 2-2, Chicago and the Bruins had already logged 1:15:47 of extra time this series. That surpassed the 1:14:41 of overtime played over two games by the Devils and Stars in the 2000 finals.

This hotly-contested series could easily see these teams playing three more games. If that’s the case, hockey fans can experience even more history.

In a hypothetical Game 7, this series would feature the most ice time of any Stanley Cup Finals in history after 2:56 of the second period — sooner, if games 5 or 6 go beyond regulation for a fourth time. That would also mean that the series would be at least 37:04 longer than any previous Stanley Cup Finals.

The series resumes with Game 5 in Chicago on Saturday night at 8 p.m. on NBC.
