Tip leads police to arrest Queens man on threat charge
A CrimeStoppers tip to police led to the arrest of a 19-year-old Queens man suspected of making telephone threats last month about a bomb in the subways, officials said.
Verniamim Yagudayev was arrested late Tuesday at his home on charges of reckless endangerment, falsely reporting an incident, making terroristic threats and aggravated harassment, police said. Officials didn't reveal the level for each offense, but they appear to be misdemeanors.
Yagudayev was identified after police last week released surveillance photos of the man they allege made two telephone calls related to false reports of subways bombs.
Both calls were made Sept. 14. The first call to 911, according to police, occurred at about 5:45 p.m. The suspect told the dispatcher there was a bomb inside a bathroom on the mezzanine level of the Union Turnpike subway station, located at Queens Boulevard and Union Turnpike, investigators said. A search of the area conducted by NYPD officers turned up nothing suspicious.
About 15 minutes later the suspect now believed to be Yagudayev called 911 and told the dispatcher that there was a bomb inside an E train at the Roosevelt Avenue subway station, located at Broadway and Roosevelt Avenue, police said. A search of the area found no suspicious devices.
As of late Wednesday, Yagudayev had not appeared in Queens Criminal Court, a spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney's office said.
