The powerful aide to Gov. David Paterson whose domestic violence scandal battered the administration officially has been fired.
David Johnson was terminated Nov. 19 after being on unpaid leave since February, when reports came out the administration and the State Police may have intimidated Johnson’s girlfriend not to file abuse charges against Johnson.
“He wasn’t terminated for cause,” Johnson’s lawyer Oscar Michelen told the Daily News. “It was just ending the limbo position he’d been in since the investigations began.”
Before his suspension, Johnson, 37, was one of Paterson’s top aides and reportedly earned $132,000 a year.
In 2009, Johnson’s girlfriend, Sherr-una Booker, 41, said he choked her and threw her against a dresser on Halloween because he was angry about how she was dressed. Johnson was charged with assault and other misdemeanor charges. He’s due in court Jan. 5.
Neither a rep for Paterson nor Johnson’s attorney returned calls for comment.
