Today is the first work day where the Montague tunnel between Manhattan and Brooklyn is shut down as MTA crews repair the tube damaged during Superstorm Sandy for the next 14 months.

The MTA is instructing R riders coming into Manhattan from Brooklyn to take trains at nearby stations in downtown Brooklyn:

Borough Hall - No. 2, 3, 4, 5.

Clark Street - No. 2, 3.

Hoyt Street - No. 2, 3.

Jay Street-MetroTech - A, C, F.

To avoid crowded trains absorbing R train riders, commuters can take these alternatives:

X27 express bus, which got a 25% boost in service from the MTA.

$2 Rockaway ferry that stops at Brooklyn Army Terminal at 58th Street at Sunset Park. The service will end after August.

From Manhattan, R train riders that need to get back into Brooklyn can take:

Bowling Green - No. 4, 5.

Wall Street - No. 2, 3, 4, 5.

Brooklyn Bridge - No. 4, 5.

Fulton Street - No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and A, C.

Park Place/Chambers Street - No 2, 3 and A, C.
