Tribeca restaurant Sazon sues over civil rights

The owner of a popular TriBeCa Latino restaurant has filed a $50 million civil rights lawsuit yesterday, claiming the city officials have discriminated against the elite eatery that has drawn noise complaints.

The suit, filed in federal court, argues Sazon has been unfairly denied the ability to stay open until 4 a.m. on weekends, to play live music and have deejays on site, and to open an additional bar in the basement.

Owner Genaro Morales told the Daily News he has been the subject of arbitrary and unfair treatment because his customers “aren’t from this neighborhood.”

The suit names the city, the State Liquor Authority, and Community Board 1. Community Board member Jeff Ehrlich disputed Morales’s allegations, saying that the restaurant at 105 Reade St. has generated too much noise and has not been a good neighbor.
