Triviality: World Series without a team from the Eastern United States

When the Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants open the 106th Fall Classic on Wednesday, the East Coast will be left out of the prestige in a way it rarely is.

Since the former Brooklyn Dodgers began play in L.A. in 1958 and became the first major league team west of St. Louis, there have been just eight World Series that didn’t involve at least one club from east of the Mississippi.

Another way to put it: Eastern teams have played for a title in more than 92 percent of World Series.
