Twitter claimed another victim, as conservative pundit Tucker Carlson is taking heat for a raunchy tweet about Sarah Palin.
The bow-tie wearing editor of The Daily Caller politics blog is under fire for tweeting Monday night: "Palin's popularity falling in Iowa, but maintains lead to become supreme commander of Milfistan." MILF is an acronym for a crass description for attractive mothers.
The conservative blogosphere lit up, with many calling Carlson sexist.
"It’s not the first time Sarah Palin's been called a MILF, and it won't be the last, it seemed like it was minimizing her," said conservative blogger Karol Markowicz of alarmingnews.com told amNewYork Thursday.
Added conservative blogger Michelle Malkin: "I am not down with … misogynist mockery of @sarahpalinusa. Sick of it."
Carlson deleted the tweet and offered a half-hearted apology, saying: "Apparently Charlie Sheen got control of my Twitter account last night while I was at dinner. Apologies for his behavior."
Still, many weren't satisfied.
"He didn’t take responsibility for his comment and he fails horribly at humor. Try again, and Tucker … you’re not funny," wrote Stacy Drake of conservatives4palin.com.
Carlson apologized Tuesday, tweeting: "I'm sorry for last night’s tweet. I meant absolutely no offense. Not the first dumb thing I’ve said. Hopefully the last."
But some found his humor spot-on. Erick Erickson of redstate.com tweeted: "Maybe my sense of humor needs to be recalibrated, but when I heard @TuckerCarlson's MILFistan comment, I laughed then got out my passport."
Palin’s office did not return calls for comment.
